Kuching to Temajuk, Kalimantan (No Passport)
It all started with an invite to spend a weekend away from the hectic city life during the Chinese New Year.
With all our favorite spots closed during this time of the year, why not just make a short break out of it?
At first, we wanted somewhere familiar ( but still out of town of course). But all accommodations in the preferred area were all fully booked. So I decided to wing it and suggested something on Airbnb. The place looks incredible at a cheap price so off we go.
It is a must for a selfie here before and after entering the border. AKA passport IG
- At the Telok Melano roundabout, take the first junction (9 o'clock)
- You can park your vehicle at the cafe. ( Safest place and no charge)
- To get to the border, I suggest you get the service of "gojek". You can find uncles/aunties hanging out at the Telok Melano roundabout cafe to get a ride. Last I checked round trip (Melano - Temajuk - Melano) will cost you around RM35. However, if you are planning to stay overnight in Temjauk, the rates may vary. Please negotiate your price with the rider. It will take approximately 20-30 mins ride tops one way. As we were staying, we however decided to book ourselves a car at the border under our accommodation. (RM150 return for 5 pax)
Note that at the border you will need to surrender your identity card or passport. Preferably identity card instead of passport lah. So please don't fret for those without a passport!

TIPS
- If you can change your money in advance in Rupiah, please do so. For our case, we just did not bother because they also accept MYR.
- I suggest you bring your own snacks/water/foodstuff. There are not many varieties in the food bar and the area we went to does not have any shops nearby. We had to make do with whatever they have ( the food bar closes early and opens late)
- We wanted to have steamboat for dinner. So we brought all the necessities: inverter, pot, dry/wet food, etc, etc. The place does offer a BBQ pit but please bring your own charcoal, utensils etc especially if you are planning to make something non-halal.
- Please bring a converter and an extension just in case the accommodation does not already provide you one. Better to have than none at all.
